Rehabilitation after stroke is an important part of recovery. It aims to improve movement, balance and the ability to perform daily activities, according to the medical team’s assessment and the individual patient’s condition.
What Is a Stroke?
A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted by a blocked blood vessel, or when bleeding occurs inside the brain. It is a medical emergency requiring immediate intervention. Sudden facial drooping, arm weakness or speech difficulties require an immediate call to emergency services; do not wait for a physiotherapy session.
When Does Rehabilitation Begin?
The treating team decides when rehabilitation can begin after the patient is medically stable. A programme may include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and swallowing therapy as needed.
The Role of Physiotherapy
The physiotherapist assesses muscle strength, balance, walking and transfers between the bed and a chair. A programme may include progressive exercises, walking and balance training, and suitable assistive devices, with attention to safety and fatigue.
Does Every Patient Recover Fully?
Recovery varies according to the location and severity of the injury, general health, timing of rehabilitation and response to treatment. The same outcome cannot be guaranteed for every patient.
How Can Health Back Help?
Health Back helps coordinate case assessment and identify a suitable rehabilitation centre in the Czech Republic or other available destinations, in cooperation with the treating medical professionals. Coordination services do not replace diagnosis or the doctor’s decisions.

Planning stroke rehabilitation in the Czech Republic
A search for stroke treatment abroad can refer to emergency care or to rehabilitation after medical stabilisation. A medical-spa stay does not replace acute stroke treatment. Discuss the proposed journey with the treating doctor, then ask the receiving centre to assess the rehabilitation enquiry before arranging travel.
What information should a rehabilitation enquiry include?
- The date and diagnosis of the stroke, hospital discharge summary and available reports.
- Current medicines, other health conditions and previous rehabilitation.
- Current walking, transfers and personal-care needs, including any communication, swallowing or nursing requirements.
- A practical goal to discuss with the clinical team, such as transfers or walking, and whether a companion will travel.
Begin with a short case summary. The coordination team can explain which documents the receiving provider requests and how to share them. This checklist is not a set of compulsory investigations for every patient.
How should I compare neurological rehabilitation programmes?
Ask each provider about its assessment, the professional disciplines available for the patient's needs, clinical supervision and how goals and progress are reviewed. Clarify individual and group sessions, rest periods and assistance outside treatment hours. A session count or an equipment brand does not establish that a programme is suitable.
Should I travel immediately, and how long will recovery take?
The treating doctor advises on whether and when travel is appropriate; the receiving centre assesses whether its programme fits the case. No single recovery time or outcome can be promised. Obtain an individual proposal before buying non-refundable travel, and discuss continuing local care while the enquiry is being arranged.
What should a companion and the follow-up team know?
Clarify assistance with the room, bathroom and transfers, what a companion is expected to do and which support needs a separate service. Before departure, request a programme summary, follow-up goals and the treating team's instructions, and identify who will continue care at home. Do not change prescribed medicines or exercises on the basis of a general article.
